The Colt 1911 Competition 70 Series is a purpose-built target pistol in .45 ACP, derived from John Browning’s legendary Government Model and tuned for the firing line. This Series 70 configuration pairs a 5″ National Match barrel with a traditional single-action semi-automatic action and ships with an 8-round single-stack magazine, giving it the classic 8+1 capacity 1911 shooters expect.
The Competition is built on a brushed stainless steel slide and frame, finished in Colt’s matte stainless for corrosion resistance and a clean, professional appearance on the line. The slide is serrated for positive manipulation under recoil, and the pistol uses the Series 70 firing pin system – the traditional solid firing pin design favored by purists for its crisp, clean trigger pull. A dual recoil spring system helps tame the .45 ACP slide for faster follow-up shots and extended spring service life.
Iron sights are Novak style for a low-profile, snag-free sight picture that co-witnesses cleanly and tracks well during rapid strings. The Competition wears blue G10 grips with a scalloped, checkered pattern and the iconic Colt logo cut into the panel. G10 is a high-pressure fiberglass laminate that shrugs off moisture, oils, and solvents while delivering a positive grip even in wet conditions. An upswept beavertail at the rear of the grip frame promotes a high, consistent hold for recoil management during rapid fire.
