The Hornady Critical Defense line was engineered specifically for personal protection, and this .45 ACP loading is built around the patented FTX bullet technology. The polymer-tipped hollow point is designed to feed reliably in semi-automatic pistols and to expand consistently, even when fired through heavy clothing where traditional hollow points can clog and fail.
At the heart of each round is a 185-grain FTX projectile featuring the patented Flex Tip. The flexible polymer tip initiates expansion at lower velocities without clogging the hollow-point cavity, eliminating the most common cause of self-defense ammunition failure. The bullet is loaded in a brass case with clean-burning, low-flash propellant, an important feature for short-barreled concealed-carry pistols where muzzle flash becomes a concern in low-light defensive situations.
Factory-rated performance from a standard 5″ barrel is 900 fps muzzle velocity producing 333 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy. Each box contains 20 rounds, and a full case ships 10 boxes (200 rounds), making it equally well-suited for everyday carry, home-defense stocking, or formal training.
